National Events:

IndiGo:

  • Pieter Elbers has joined IndiGo as the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ) .Elbers replaced Ronojoy Dutta who is set to retire on 30 September , 2022.
  • Elbers has previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines since 2014 and is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Air France – KLM Group. Indigo Headquarters : Gurugram.

 

5th India – US Maritime Security Dialogue:

  • The 5th India – US Maritime Security Dialogue was held in New Delhi on 8 September 2022. Both sides discussed developments in the global maritime domain , bilateral maritime cooperation endeavors , regional support initiatives and collaborative efforts.
  • They agreed to remain engaged with the objective of further enhancing the India – US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

 

Volker Turk:

  • Volker Turk of Austria has been appointed as the next United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
  • He is currently coordinating global policy work as an Under – Secretary – General in the UN’s Executive Office.
  • Previously , he was the Assistant High Commissioner for Protection at UN refugees , UNHCR , in Geneva.

 

Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan:

  • President Droupadi Murmu virtually launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in September 2022.
  • She also launched the Ni – kshay 2.0 initiative , a portal to provide a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment.
  • One can register on the portal to become a Nikshay Mitra and can choose the duration of support ranging from 1-3 years.

 

Centre- State Science Conclave:

  • PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the two – day Centre- State Science Conclave on 10 Sept 2022 via video conferencing. The conclave is being organised at Science City , Ahmedabad , Gujarat.
  • The conclave will include sessions on different thematic areas including digital health care , doubling private sector investment in R & D by 2030 , technological interventions for improving farmers ‘ income , etc.

 

India Water Pitch – Pilot – Scale start – up challenge:

  • Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced the results of India Water Pitch – Pilot – Scale start – up challenge in September 2022.
  • The challenge was launched under Amrut 2.0 in March 2022. A total of 76 startups have been selected out of 222 entries , which will help local civic bodies conserve water. They will be provided Rs 20 lakh as funding support as well as mentorship.

 

PATWA:

  • West Bengal has been accredited with the International Travel Award 2023 , for ‘ best destination for culture ‘ by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association ( PATWA ) , an affiliate of the UN World Tourism Organisation.
  • The award will be conferred in Berlin , at the World Tourism & Aviation Leaders ‘ Summit on March 9 , 2023. PATWA is an organisation of travel writers that was founded in 1998.

 

National electric freight platform- e – FAST India:

  • NITI Aayog , in collaboration with World Resources Institute ( WRI ) , India , has launched the country’s 1st national electric freight platform- e – FAST India ( Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport ).
  • Aim : to raise awareness on freight electrification bolstered by on – ground demonstration pilots & evidence – based research.

 

Gayaji Dam:

  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on 8 September ’22 inaugurated India’s longest rubber dam ‘ Gayaji Dam ‘ on the Falgu river in Gaya . It is 411 meters long & 3 meters high & has been built at a cost of Rs 312 crores.
  • With its construction , now at least two feet of water will be available in the Falgu river near Vishnupad Ghat throughout the year for the devotees who come here to do Pind Daan.

 

Karnataka Government:

  • The Karnataka Government has decided to provide monetary aid to the SC / ST patients in the state suffering from diseases categorised as ” rare diseases ” and ” high – cost diseases “.
  • The state government will provide monetary aid for the diseases which are not covered under the Centre’s ‘ Ayushman Bharat ‘ scheme. The government has allocated Rs 23.18 crore for this new scheme . Karnataka CM : Basavaraj Bommai.

 

NSCN(K) Niki:

  • The Union government on 7 September 2022 extended the ceasefire agreement with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland ( K ) Niki group for another year.
  • The NSCN ( K ) Niki group is a break – away faction of the Naga insurgency group NSCN & it is led by Niki Sumi.
  • The NSCN ( K ) Niki had first signed the ceasefire agreement with the union govt on September 8 , 2021 , for a period of one year.

 

International Events:

North Korea:

  • North Korea has passed a law allowing itself to carry out a preventive nuclear strike. The status of the nation as a nuclear weapons state has become irreversible with the new law.
  • The law specifically states that it can use nuclear weapons in case of a nuclear or non – nuclear attack by hostile forces on the state leadership and the command organization of the state’s nuclear forces.

 

Queen Elizabeth II:

  • Queen Elizabeth II , Britain’s . longest – serving monarch , passed away at the age of 96 on 8 September 2022. She came to the throne at the age of 25 in 1952 after the sudden demise of her father King George VI.
  • Queen Elizabeth ruled over Britain for 70 years. Her eldest son , Prince Charles , 73 , will be the new king of the UK , according to centuries of protocol.

 

UNDP:

  • India ranked 132 out of 191 countries in the 2021 human development index ( HDI ) , according to a report released by the United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP ).
  • Among India’s neighbours , Sri Lanka ( 73rd ) , China ( 79th ) , Bangladesh ( 129th ) and Bhutan ( 127th ) are ranked above India. Switzerland remained at the top spot , followed by Norway and Iceland. India ranked 131 in the 2020 index.

 

World Physiotherapy Day : 8 September:

  • World Physiotherapy Day is observed on September 8 every year. Physiotherapy deals with the management of chronic conditions & underlying issues related to pain.
  • This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the crucial role physiotherapists play in keeping people fit & improving quality of life & it was first observed in 1996.
  • 2022 Theme : ” Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis “.
