National Events:

Maratha Reservation:

  • Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has given approval for the constitution of a Sub – Committee on Maratha Reservation. The committee comprising 6 members will be headed by State Higher and Technical Education Minister , Chandrakant Patil.
  • It will take necessary legislative action on the report received from the State Backward Class Commission on the community’s condition.

 

5 day training programme:

  • In Leh , a 5 – day training programme for officials of the vigilance & Anti – Corruption Bureau , ACB , and revenue department officials of Union Territory Ladakh began on 19 Sept 2022.
  • Ladakh Police DIG Shiekh Junaid Mehmood inaugurated the training programme. UT Ladakh Home Department organized the training on the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

 

SCALE:

  • Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on 20 Sept 2022 launched the SCALE ( Skill Certification Assessment for Leather Employees ) app .It provides a one – stop solution for skilling , learning , assessment , & employment needs of the leather industry.
  • It has been developed by the Leather Skill Sector Council. People from all age groups interested in leather craft can access online classes on this app.

 

Chhello Show:

  • Gujarati film ‘ Chhello Show ‘ has been selected as India’s official entry to the 95th Academy Awards ( 2023 Oscar Awards ). This film is titled ‘ Last Film Show ‘ in English & is directed by Pan Nalin.
  • It beat SS Rajamouli’s period drama ‘ RRR ‘ and political drama ‘ The Kashmir Files ‘. In 2021 , Tamil film ‘ Koozhangal ‘ ( ‘ Pebbles ‘ ) , directed by Vinothraj PS , was India’s official entry at the Oscars.

 

PLI Scheme:

  • The Union Cabinet has approved changes in production – linked incentive ( PLI ) scheme for manufacturing of semiconductor. The PLI scheme for manufacturing of semiconductors was announced by the Centre in Dec 2021 with an outlay of Rs . 76,000 crore.
  • The programme aims to provide attractive incentive support to companies / consortia that are engaged in Silicon Semiconductor Fabs , Display Fabs , etc.

 

SECI:

  • The 11th Foundation Day celebration of Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited ( SECI ) was held on 20 September 2022. SECI is a company of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy , established to facilitate the implementation of the National Solar Mission.
  • It is the only Central Public Sector Undertaking dedicated to the solar energy sector. Headquarters : New Delhi.

 

Maharastra Police:

  • Maharashtra government has decided to grant a total of 20 days casual leaves for the Maharashtra police every year. The number of casual leaves was 12 days earlier.
  • Maharashtra has the highest strength of Civil Police- 1,65,740 accounting for 13.5 % of the total civil police in the country. The largest police division in the country has around 36 district police units in the state.

 

AIBD:

  • India’s presidency of the prestigious Asia – pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development ( AIBD ) has been extended for one more year.
  • It was unanimously decided by the AIBD member countries at the 2 day General Conference of AIBD held in New Delhi in September 2022.
  • Currently , Mayank Agrawal , CEO Prasar Bharati , is the President of AIBD. AIBD established : 1977. Member Countries : 26.

 

Hero Motocorp & HPCL:

  • Hero MotoCorp has joined hands with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd ( HPCL ) to set up charging infrastructure for electric two – wheelers in the country.
  • As a part of this initiative , the two companies will first establish charging infrastructure at HPCL’s existing network of stations.
  • More than 60 % of the EVs sold in the country are two – wheelers . Hero MotoCorp. CEO : Pawan Munjal.

 

Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha:

  • Jammu & Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Kashmir’s first multiplex in the Sonwar area of Srinagar on 20 Sept 2022. With this , cinema halls are back in Kashmir after a gap of three decades.
  • The multiplex designed by INOX has 3 movie theatres with a total capacity of 520 seats. On Dec 31 , 1990 , all cinema halls in the Kashmir valley were closed amid the spread of terrorism.

 

GeM:

  • Government e – Marketplace ( GeM ) in association with PIB Bhubaneswar organised a Seller Sambad in Bhubaneswar , Odisha on 20 Sept 2022. It was organised to interact with the GeM sellers and to make them aware about the new GeM features & functionalities.
  • The GeM is an online platform for public procurement in India. It was launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry , Govt of India.

 

Manipur Cabinet:

  • Manipur Cabinet on 20 Sept 2022 decided to legalize the brewing of liquor in the State. Experts from Scotland and Ireland will be invited to discuss how to brew purified and high – standard liquor in the State.
  • The State government expects to earn around Rs 600 crore on liquor exports. Manipur CM : N. Biren Singh Governor : La . Ganesan . Capital : Imphal.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

ISRO:

  • ISRO has successfully tested a hybrid motor. The 30 kN hybrid motor tested at ISRO Propulsion Complex ( IPRC ) at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu on 20 September 2022 , is scalable and stackable.
  • The test was supported by ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre ( LPSC ) . The motor used Hydroxyl – terminated polybutadiene ( HTPB ) as fuel and liquid oxygen ( LOX ) as the oxidiser.

 

International Events:

World Alzheimer’s Day : 21 September:

  • World Alzheimer’s Day is observed on September 21. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is a progressive brain disease which results in loss of memory and thinking skills.
  • It destroys the brain cells which causes memory loss , memory changes , erratic behaviour , and loss of body functions . Theme for world Alzheimer’s month 2022 : ‘ Know dementia , Know Alzheimer’s’.

 

India & Egypt:

  • India & Egypt on Sept 20 , 2022 , signed an MoU to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation. It was signed by Defence Minister Rajanth Singh , who is on a two – day Cairo , & his Egyptian counterpart General Mohamed Zaki.
  • They also agreed to identify proposals for expanding cooperation between the defence industries of India and Egypt in a time – bound manner. Egypt Capital : Cairo.

 

International Day of Peace : 21 September:

  • International Day of Peace is observed across the globe on September 21 annually. It is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace , both within and among all nations and people.
  • It was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. To commemorate the day , the United Nations Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters in New York City. 2022 Theme : ” End racism , Build peace ‘.

 

MAS & IFSCA:

  • The Monetary Authority of Singapore ( MAS ) and India’s International Financial Services Centres Authority ( IFSCA ) have signed an agreement to facilitate regulatory collaboration in FinTech technology.
  • Under this , both MAS & IFSCA will facilitate discussions on emerging FinTech issues & participate in joint innovation projects. MAS is Singapore’s central bank & integrated financial regulator.

 

Sports Events:

ICC:

  • The International Cricket Council ( ICC ) on 20 Sept 2022 announced several changes to the playing conditions after it ratified recommendations from the Sourav Ganguly – led Men’s Cricket Committee.
  • Now Mankad would no longer be considered an unfair play but it would be called a ‘ Run – Out “.The saliva ban would now be permanent & players would not be allowed to use saliva to make the ball shine.
  • Another change in rule would be the ‘ Batters returning when caught ‘ : If a batter is caught out the new batsman coming would be the one taking strikes.
  • Also , the new coming batter will need to get ready to face the ball within two minutes of him reaching the pitch , while the 90 seconds rule for T20 cricket will remain unchanged. These changes will come into effect on 1 Oct 2022.
