National Events:

DBU:

  • PM Narendra Modi will dedicate 75 Digital Banking Units ( DBUs ) to the nation on 16 Oct 2022.
  • As part of the Union budget speech for 2022-23 , the Finance Minister had announced the setting up of the 75 DBUs in 75 districts of the country to commemorate the 75 years of independence of the country.
  • The DBUs are being set up to ensure benefits of digital banking reach all corners of the country.

 

SLBM:

  • INS Arihant carried out a successful launch of a Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile ( SLBM ) on 14 October 2022.
  • The missile was tested to a predetermined range and impacted the target area in the Bay of Bengal with very high accuracy.
  • All operational and technological parameters of the weapon system have been validated.

 

IInvenTiv:

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated IInvenTiv , the first ever all – IIT R & D showcase on 14th Oct 2022 at the IIT , Delhi.
  • IInvenTiv will work as a key forum to provide solutions to complex global problems. It will host over 300 representatives from various organisations.
  • A total of 75 projects by the 23 IITs are being exhibited at this event.

 

PM Kisan Samman Sammelan:

  • PM Modi will inaugurate PM Kisan Samman Sammelan on 17th October 2022 at Indian Agriculture Research Institute , New Delhi.
  • PM will release 16,000 crore rupees under the PM – KISAN flagship scheme as the 12th installment through direct benefit transfer during the Sammelan.
  • PM will also launch subsidised urea bags under a single brand ‘ Bharat ‘ as part of the ‘ One Nation , One Fertiliser ‘ scheme.

 

Partha Satpathy:

  • Senior IFS officer Partha Satpathy has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Satpathy is presently serving as the Ambassador of India to Hungary.
  • Earlier , Adarsh Swaika & Avtar Singh were appointed as India’s next Ambassadors to Kuwait & to Guinea respectively.
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina is a country on the Balkan Peninsula in Europe. Capital : Sarajevo.

 

GHI:

  • India has been ranked 107th out of 121 countries in the 2022 Global Hunger Index ( GHI ) released on 14th October.
  • In 2021 , India was ranked 101st out of 116 countries. India has fared poorer than its neighbours Pakistan ( 99th ) , Nepal ( 81st ) and Bangladesh ( 84th ).
  • The index calculates the hunger levels and malnutrition across the world. Published by : Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe.

 

An iconic cable stayed – cum – suspension bridge:

  • The central government on 13th October approved construction of an iconic cable stayed – cum – suspension bridge across the Krishna river connecting Telangana & Andhra Pradesh.
  • Once completed , the bridge would be 2nd of its kind in the world and 1st in India. The bridge is expected to cut the distance between Hyderabad and Tirupati by 80 km.
  • It will be built at a cost of ₹ 1,082.56 crores.

 

36 satellites:

  • Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ) will launch 36 satellites of UK’s global communications network OneWeb on 23rd October.
  • GSLV MkIII , ISRO’s heaviest rocket , will launch these satellites from the spaceport in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota.
  • With this the GSLV MkIll will enter the global commercial launch service market. This launch is being facilitated by Space PSU NewSpace India Ltd.

 

PAI:

  • Haryana has emerged as the best – governed state among 18 large states in the Public Affairs Index ( PAI ) 2022 released on 14th Oct 2022. These rankings were released by the Bengaluru – based Public Affairs Centre ( PAC ).
  • The states are divided into 2 categories – large & small , & the assessment is done based on data from the central govt. Sikkim has bagged the top spot among 10 small states.

 

Hyderabad:

  • Telangana’s Hyderabad city won the overall ‘ World Green City Award 2022 ‘ at the International Association of Horticulture Producers ( AIPH ) World Green City Awards 2022 held in Jeju , South Korea on 14th Oct 2022.
  • It also won the ‘ Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth ‘ award. Hyderabad beat cities like Paris , Mexico City , Montreal & Fortaleza to be adjudged the winner.

 

GEO India 2022:

  • Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on 14th Oct 2022 inaugurated the three – day 5th South Asian Geoscience Conference ( GEO India 2022 ) in Jaipur , Rajasthan.
  • It will be attended by over 100 experts from across India & other countries including the US , Norway & the European Central. Delegates will share the latest research on improved production of natural gas & oil.

 

Universal health insurance scheme:

  • Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched a universal health insurance scheme on 14 October 2022.
  • All government hospitals in the state will also be empanelled to provide in – patient treatment under the scheme , and the revenue earned from the scheme can be used by the hospitals for improving the delivery of health services in their respective facilities.

 

World Ayurveda Congress & Arogya Expo:

  • Goa will host 9th World Ayurveda Congress & Arogya Expo from December 8-11 , 2022. ‘ Ayurveda for One Health ‘ is the focal theme of the event.
  • It will be organized by World Ayurveda Foundation , an initiative of Vijnana Bharati.
  • Seven plenary sessions , 16 themes for oral presentation , a string of associated events , and public outreach programs will dominate the proceedings of the conclave.

 

Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot website for contribution to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund , on 14 Oct 22.
  • The Tri – Service fund is utilised for grant of financial assistance to the families of armed personnel of 3 forces who laid down their lives in military operations.
  • The amount donated provides financial assistance to the families of martyrs.

 

International Events:

World Students ‘ Day : 15th October:

  • October 15 is celebrated as World Students ‘ Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam , a celebrated Aerospace scientist and former President of India ( 2002-07 ).
  • Kalam is fondly remembered as ” People’s President ” , and he was known for his dedication towards promoting education. Dr Kalam was honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997.

 

International Day of Rural Women : 15th October:

  • October 15 is celebrated as the International Day of Rural women across the world. Aim : to promote gender quality & highlight the important role played by women in rural areas.
  • Established in : 2007 by the UN.
  • As per a UN report , approximately 40 % of the total agricultural labour force in developing countries comprises women. 2022 Theme : ” Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All “.

 

6th East Asia Summit Education Minister’s Meeting:

  • India participated at the 6th East Asia Summit Education Minister’s Meeting held on 14 October 2022 in Hanoi , Vietnam. Joint Secretary ( International Cooperation ) Ministry of Education Ms. Neeta Prasad virtually addressed the gathering.
  • She informed about NEP – 2020 and how it is based on foundational pillars of access , equality , quality , affordability and accountability.
